Hi Members,
I know it’s hard to believe, but it is renewal time again. It’s time to add up all your PD points and pay your membership fees. If you are having any difficulty, please contact Diana and Jodie in the office. They are always happy to help.
The newsletter is a little late this month – I am sorry. We have been hard at work putting together the conference program. While we still only have a draft and changes may happen, I have attached a list of some the exciting presentations we will have for you. Our Keynote for Day 1 is DRTA’s very own Renee Smith. Renee will share her journey of the many different roles she has had, all leading to her current positon as consultant for Dementia Support Australia. Day 2 Keynote is Dr Cindy Jones, an Associate Professor of Behavioural Sciences at Bond University. She shares with us a resource she developed – Sexuality and Dementia: Education for Health Professionals and the messages that it ain’t too late!
We also have speakers and topics ranging from the new aged care standards, multisensory rooms, NCTRC certification process, NDIS, innovative program ideas and much more. The 2 days are going to be jam-packed with something for everyone. A completed program will be out soon, so keep an eye on the website.
We are also extending the conference Early Bird Special till 26th July! So now is the time to register if you haven’t already. Included in your 2 day registration is a ticket to the Cocktail Party, held on the Friday evening. We will be awarding the award for excellence winner, professional development awards and many more. This years is special as it is our 10 year anniversary as a National Body. We will be celebrating this milestone and we are inviting you to join us. There has never been a better time to register for conference. Get in quick before the early bird special ends.
The Annual General Meeting will also be held after the close of conference on Saturday 13th July. Very soon you will receive your notice of AMG and nomination forms. There are 7 positions available for nomination this year – ranging from President, VP and secretary to state rep positions. If you are interested in any of the positions and would like more information, please contact the office and we can organise for someone on the board to talk to you. When I first joined the board I was scared and unsure what I had to contribute. But here I am, 5 years later as the president asking you to take the leap. Being part of the DRTA Board been an exciting experience, and has helped me grow not only professionally but also personally. I have meet people and made friendships that I wouldn’t have if I didn’t take that chance and join the board. Everyone has something to contribute, no matter how big or small. So I ask you, what can you contribute?
Till next month,
Kylie Rice
President
