DRTA International Liaison Report March 2018
Sylvie Silver, from NAPA in the UK has kindly submitted an article for our next newsletter. The article is about the annual Care Home open days that are held in the UK and this year they want to include homes in the Commonwealth and around the word in general.
In conversation with Charmaine Tan from the Agency for Integrated Care in Singapore, AIC, she asked if there was a possibility of her new DT students doing their training through an accredited training organisation in Australia. They are in the process of putting DT’s and Activity Coordinators /assistants in their Aged Care facilities for the first time. So, I contacted Elsa Demetriou, from Skills Training Australia, one of DRTA’s major sponsors, and I was able to let her know what Charmaine had requested about training her students. Elsa was very hopeful that an arrangement could be made with her organisation and the people in Singapore from AIC.
I had 2 emails from activity coordinators in the US in regards to starting penfriends with some of our residents here in Australia. The 2 emails were from Sun Hee Lee who works in Fullarton in California and Lori Wright who works in San Diego, California. They were both referred to me through G&K, USA. I sent back emails to them both and haven’t heard from them yet to progress the pen pals any further.
Orquidea has also sent through some pictures from her recent visit to the Barunga Village facility where I work.
