QLD Board Representative – David Mas

David is an educator at TAFE Gold Coast, QLD teaching numerous units for qualifications including Cert IV Leisure and Health, Cert IV Allied Health Assistant and Cert III Individual Support.

He has extensive experience working in aged care for NSW Health as the diversional therapy manager responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating person-centred diversional therapy activities for clients with dementia, Huntington’s Disease, psycho-geriatric conditions and spinal-cord injuries and managing a diversional therapy team.

David also worked in community settings when he held the position of Younger Onset Dementia Key Worker responsible for the Gold Coast, QLD, Longreach, QLD, and Mt Isa, QLD geographical areas providing support to individuals and their families diagnosed with dementia under the age of 65.

David holds various qualifications including a Bachelor of Applied Science (Therapeutic Recreation), Diploma of Community Services Work and Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

David has presented at numerous DTA conferences and workshops and was involved in a research project examining psychological stress and strain amongst Diversional Therapists (collaboration between DTA-NSW, QUT, La Trobe University, Aston University, Loughborough University) in 2008-9.

David is a goal directed and results oriented professional with a strong diversional

therapy background and education.

David has a specific passion for inspiring and passing on his knowledge to students with evidence based practice.
