Hi members,
As we move into April, I hope everybody is enjoying the change in the weather. I know that I am definitely enjoying the cooler days and can’t wait for beautiful autumn colours to start showing.
The big news for this month is Call for papers for the conference is now out. And also the nominations for the DRTA Award for Excellence. The conference is my favourite event on the DRTA calendar. I love catching up with old friends, meeting new people; and conference for me is all about sharing information and knowledge. And for that reason I ask all of you to consider submitting an abstract for a presentation or poster. As DT’s we are always developing and providing innovative programs for our clients and the best ways to move our profession forward is to share our knowledge, for our own personal development and to create better outcomes for our clients.
That also means that conference registration is also open. Get in quick to grab the early bird special. Visit the website for more details and don’t forget to log in to receive your members discount! I look forward to seeing you all in Melbourne.
This months focus is on Aged Care. An area in which a bulk of our members work. As I don’t work in the aged care sector I was doing some research and discovered that this year NSW will celebrate it’s 60th Birthday for Seniors Week. In NSW it is called the Seniors Festival and will be celebrated 4-15th April. I like that is referred to as a festival as it should not just be about us celebrating the seniors, but celebrating with them. NSW has many events organised across the state for all to enjoy together. The Seniors Festival is a time to recognise the contributions made to our community in the past and the important role they continue to play.
The DRTA provides training in CST – Cognitive Stimulation Therapy. This is a proven therapy shown to have benefits on cognitive, social interaction and general wellbeing for people with a mild to moderate dementia diagnosis. Visit the website for more information and training dates near you.
As I write this Easter is fast approaching. I would like to take the opportunity to wish you and your families a very happy and safe Easter and holiday period. I feel like I should be reminding everyone not to over indulge on chocolate, though what other time of the year can you eat some much chocolate guilt free! Enjoy the chocolate, hot cross buns and time spent with family.
Take care,
Kylie Rice
