National Workshop Programme, News and Updates with Steph – 2 February 2016

Happy New Year!!  How can it already be February!!

Our 2016 workshop season begins in a few days.

The Access to Leisure workshop at Royal Rehab on Friday 5th of February kick starts our year. If there is still time when you read this check out the program below and register for some inspiration to kick start your year too!

This is our go to workshop for information specifically in the field of disabilities as we know Diversional Therapists and recreational staff are in prime position to influence the wellbeing and enjoyment of leisure and fun for people with differing needs and abilities.

On the 5th of February at Royal Rehab:

  • International presenter Vineta Lagzdina is flying in from Adelaide to give an extended presentation on the power of Music
  • The Veggie Lady and popular presenter Toni Salter will utilise the extensive outdoor environment at Royal Rehab to demonstrate her passion for plants and flowers to inspire and heal
  • Our NSW Board member for DTA, Diversional Therapist Kylie Rice, will share some behavioural management tools she finds can assist in engaging clients
  • Informative and always entertaining supporter of DTA, Ernest Buckley is presenting on Swimming as an activity or therapy program and
  • Royal Rehab and its recreational staff will present on the Return2Sport program that has gained international recognition, with a tour of the world class facilities also on the day
  • There are prizes, resources, good food and the opportunity to network and discuss the challenges that you come across every day in your roles with others that may be facing the same things.

So join us if you can!

Next up for the year is our Melbourne Workshop on the 26th of February. This workshop also looks like being special with Music Therapist Dr Loretta Quinn taking a major role. The Australian Aged Care Quality Agency is also attending on the day so inform your managers and come with your specific questions on accreditation. Lauretta Kauldor is coming to Melbourne to present on a different approach to reminiscence and Chris Grady will tell us about a specific Jewish program he has developed. I’m looking forward to meeting some of you at the Melbourne workshop myself this year as we trial a new venue in Little Collins Street at the training rooms of Skills Training Australia- your feedback will be invaluable so please let me know what you think.

See the time table for all the workshops for 2016 to plan your year ahead! We are scheduling workshops in cities and regional areas again this year and hope to see you return to learn from an always changing line up of presenters and topics.

If there is an area of interest that you would like to learn about or experience first-hand please email me at stephania@diversionaltherapy.org.au

Same goes if you have an area of interest you’d like to present on!! Get all your PD points in one go!!

I’ll leave you with this thought till next time as I get on with planning the rest of the years workshops,
