July Top ten Activities

29th June-12 July- Wimbeldon (celebrate the finals week with strawberries and cream and pimmes play balloon tennis using your hands or my favourite fly swatters)

4th July – American Independence Day (celebrate with a Elvis impersonator and mini hot dogs with ketchup and mustard for afternoon tea, get your residents to wear red, white and blue)

4th July – Birthday – Song writer Stephen Foster (1826-1864) was born in Lawrenceville, Pennsylvania. Among his nearly 200 songs were; Oh! Susanna, Camptown Races, Swanee River, Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair, and Beautiful Dreamer. He died in poverty at Bellevue Hospital in New York

5th – 12th July- NAIDOC Week is held in the first full week of July. It is a time to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievements and is an opportunity to recognise the contributions that Indigenous Australians make to our country and our society.

8th July – State of Origin decider ( decorate with blue and maroon balloons and streamers, watch it live or tape it and replay the next day with a KFC lunch or a afternoon tea with pies and sausage rolls. Get staff involved with a mufti day)

12th – 18th July National Diabetes Week Each year Diabetes Australia celebrates National Diabetes Week to raise awareness about diabetes in Australia. The campaign aims to educate Australia of the risk factors for type 2 diabetes and how type 2 can be prevented.

14 July – Bastille Day (French celebrations with flags, music and croissants with jam or toasted with ham and cheese, or even a wine and cheese tasting don’t forget the grapes)

24 July- Birthday – American pilot Amelia Earhart (1898-1937) was born in Atchison, Kansas. She became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic and to fly solo from Hawaii to California. She perished during a flight from New Guinea to Howland Island over the Pacific Ocean on July 3, 1937.

25 July – Christmas in July (put up the Christmas tree have a special lunch or afternoon tea with white xmas and a few carols)

31 July – Evonne Goolagong’s Birthday search her life and do a reading of her greatest achievements
